Vesna Vulovi, or Vesna Vulović,  is a former JAT Yugoslav Airlines flight attendant, who survived a 33,000 feet (10,160m) fall without a parachute. For that, Vesna Vulovi was awarded a Guinness Book of Records world record by Sir Paul McCarthy in a ceremony.

Back on 26th January 1972, JAT Yugoslav's Flight 364 from Copenhagen to Zagreb and Belgrade exploded 33,000 feet over now Czech Republic's Srbska-Kamenice village. It was a terrorism attack by Croatia's Ustaša group.

Vulovi, then 22, who was not scheduled to be on this flight had been mixed up with another female flight attendant who was also named Vesna.

Miraculously, Vulovi solely survived the explosion and the plungel, but suffered a fractured skull, two broken legs and three broken vertebrae, which left her temporarily paralyzed from the waist down.

According to an article on Damn Interesting, her good fortune in surviving the accident is most likely due to her low blood pressure, which caused her to pass out quickly and prevented her heart from bursting.

Vesna Vulovi regained the use of her legs after surgery. Because of her positive attitude toward on life, she went back to work at the airlines and still flied for some occasions. Thus, she was considered a national heroine throughout the former Yugoslavia. Source: Wikipedia
