As a relative newcomer to the world of fashion and design, Juicy Couture has already made a name for itself as one of the key players in the industry today. Originally founded in 1996, the company is certainly not a new entity in the strongest terms of the world, but certainly does not hold the generations of pedigree associated with the other fashion world heavyweights such as Versace, Valentino or Ralph Lauren to name but a few. Growing from relative obscurity into one of the most highly sought after and respected produces of contemporary fashion designs and accessories today, the rise of Juicy Couture was certainly of an impressive speed and magnitude.

During the year 1995, a pair of budding designers with dreams of greatness joined forces to put their ideas and inspiration to practical use, likely unaware of the unstoppable success which was to follow. Gela Nash and Pamela Skaist-Levy, both of whom were living in California at the time, decided to begin their own fashion label carrying the name of 'Travis Jeans' specialising in the production of maternity pants. Just a year later during 1996, the company name was changed from Travis Jeans to Juicy Couture, with the aim of branching out into feminine and somewhat 'girly' apparel and accessories. The intention was to design and produce a full range which was certainly in line with any major label in the business, while also remaining affordable with prices far lower than any of the competition.

The subsequent line which followed carrying the new Juicy Couture brand name would include both casual clothing items and also a range of athletic apparel, including the world famous and unmistakable Juicy Couture velour jogging suit which was responsible for earning he brand a huge amount of subsequent interest and popularity.

Neither Levy nor Taylor had much in the way of capital when first embarking on their journey, leading to something of a slow starting period for their new brand. Indeed, Juicy Couture had a rather humble beginning. During 1996, it was becoming more and more apparent that the company needed to make the public aware of the brand and expose their designs in the most high profile and effective way possible. With this in mind, designs were sent to countless celebrities and fashion world notables with the hope of generating interest from those at the forefront of the industry. This was to prove more successful than anyone could have dreamed...

Madonna was one of the celebrities targeted, provided with a custom version of the velour track suit with the name Madge featured on the fabric. Madonna was subsequently seen wearing the track suit and, needless to say, the hysteria that followed was of quite biblical magnitude. Anything seen sported by an A-lister such as Madonna is suddenly catapulted into the limelight, becoming the new must-have item for anyone interested in fashion and style. This was no different in the case of Juicy Couture, making the brand something of a worldwide smash almost instantly.

Further capitalising on this high level of profile, Juicy couture retained a huge level of exclusivity by remaining available at only a small number of outlets across the world, Neiman Marcus being one example. In fact, the company did not establish its own boutiques and outlet stores until the latter half of the 2000s. Needless to say, once this happened, the hysteria once again hit fever pitch with the velour tracksuit in particular enjoying a second wave of success the world over.

The year 2003 saw the Juicy Couture brand featured an new line of designs under the title 'Couture Couture' which consisted of 20 items in total, all carrying significantly higher prices. It is thought that the new line is something of a reflection of the lives of the founders, which have grown alongside the Juicy brand from rather humble beginnings into industry leaders. The standard range of Juicy Couture products also continued in its expansion with the introduction of its first loungewear and nightwear collection known as 'Choose Sleep' during 2008.
