Google to Quit China, Fans Offered Flowers, Held Light Vigil at Its Beijing Headquarters (Pictures)

David Drummond, Google's chief legal officer, threatened in a blog post the search engine giant would quit the China market. Influential Chinese IT blogger Keso explicitly used Google Quits China as the title for a response to Mr Drummond's statement. Quite some of Google fans in Beijing offered followers and even held a small light vigil at Google headquarters in Beijing's Tsinghua High-tech Park upon hearing the distressed news.

The apparent reason, though as Drummond used six paragraphs of his nine-paragraphed article to explain, is what he said because Chinese hackers attacked its core infrastructure and tried to access the Gmail accounts of some Chinese human rights activists.

These were just too simple excuses. The four years of Google's existence as Google China in Beijing, was bumpy, inconvenient. It had to offer a censored Google.cn (or G.cn). Still the company was often screwed up by the Chinese government, especially in 2009 when it was accused of spreading pornographic contents not once but twice on some high profiled events.

David Drummond revealed Google is "no longer willing to continue censoring our results on Google.cn," followed by a much diplomatic toned sentence "and so over the next few weeks we will be discussing with the Chinese government the basis on which we could operate an unfiltered search engine within the law, if at all" before he finally acknowledged "We recognize that this may well mean having to shut down Google.cn, and potentially our offices in China."

For those who are familiar with Google's situation, what David Drummond hinted can 100% certain that Google will pull out the plug from China.

In a report by Xinhua which is China's official news agency, the anonymous employee at Google Beijing Office said "No agreement will be reached with both sides refusing to give in."

Even though, some Chinese officials cast their doubts on Google's decision. "It is still hard to say whether Google will quit China or not. Nobody knows," a high-ranking official with China's State Council Information Office told to Xinhua in a telephone interview on the condition of anonymity.

Strangely enough, Guo Ke, a professor on mass communication from Shanghai International Studies University, told Xinhua it was "almost impossible" for Google to quit China. He believed "Google is just playing cat and mouse, and trying to use netizens' anger or disappointment as leverage." Nevertheless, it's true that Guo's viewpoint that Chinese Internet users are the real victims if Google quits China."

Digital Inspiration published quite some screenshots depicting the Google Analytics' Adsense revenue tracking service from some a tester.

Bugs Bothering Adsense Code in Blogger.com/Blogspot Posts

Google adsense logo

Hi, Bloggers you are using Google's Blogger.com and wanna (or already) put Adsense ads into the blog posys, maybe you need to pay attention! There are possibly have bugs in Blogger.com platform.blogger b html codes

Bloggers love put Adsense Ads directly in a blog post because they can attract a lot of clicks, which means money. But since Google has used its new Blogger html codes (or B html codes, see right image) to construct new Blogger.com, it's well-known that one can not directly insert original Adsense ads code (see below, take a 336*280 ads as example). Original Google Adsense javascript code Or even though one forcefully does like that, Adsense Ads have no way to appear when visitors read his/her post in Blogger.com

So previously what one can do is to make two minor modifications, that is, change the arrows in <!-- and --> to  their respective ASCII code. Sample below:

Modified Google Adsense javascript code However this manner now seems being bothered by bugs. I just found codes below after I logged into Edit Html panel and expanded Widget Templates:

Modified Google Adsense javascript code Google Ad Host

There is one more google_ad_host google_ad_slot = "xxxxxxxxxx"; injected.

If now I leave Edit Html panel by clicking Page Elements or Fonts and Colors tab, then again return to Edit Html, tick Expand Widget Templates, I was shown one more google_ad_host and something weird, looks like this:

Modified Google Adsense javascript code Google Ad HostGoogle Ad Host

Repeat the step above, you can get even more google_ad_host, so I think there must be bugs existing in Blogger.com.

What I'm concerned is when there is a lot of google_ad_host, will Google charge me of changing the Adsense codes which is strictly prohibited in Google Adsense TOS?

But no need to panic indeed, to solve the problem, just simply replace all the arrows (both < and >) for their respective ASCII codes, or you can directly go to Blogger Ad Code Converter at eBlog Templates where helps convert all of those parenthesis:

blogger ad code converter for adsense chitika adbrite etc

Note: This wasn't tested in the classic templates of Blogger.com, but did be tried on the templates constructed using the new B html codes (even run a new applied Blogger.com's blog).

Attention! AdSense Ads Below Blog Post Title Violates TOS, Unless You Put Advertisement or Sponsored Links Indicator

Google adsense logo

Most bloggers, including myself, are quite enjoying the revenue originating from the Adsense ads put just below the title of every blog post, because that area is most visible to a visitor thus attracts the clicks.

Maybe now one has to pay attention to this matter, the webmasters at Quickonlinetips.com revealed that they had received an email from Google Adsense support team and were informed to do a little bit modification.

Back in this March, Meridith Major of AdSense Publisher Support clarified on Inside Adsense, saying "ads shouldn't be placed under titles such as “Dallas Business Opportunities” or “Today's Hot Deals”. Placing ads directly below titles such as these implies to your users that the links in the ads are publisher-created content." Apparently, these guidelines are not clear enough.

Google's email to Quickonlinetips.com made a further clarification. It said the title can still mislead visitors to click thus clearly required them to label the Google ads with text other than 'sponsored links’ or ‘advertisements’.

Needless to say, putting such word(s) may lead to less clicks. But to fully comply with Google Adsense's Terms of Services, Quikonlinetips add an word of advertisements right above their ads.

In the reality, a lot of blogs with huge traffics, such as some of my favorite sites--Neatorama, Popcrunch, all apply a Google ads unit right below their blog posts without indicating it is an advertisement. I'm just curious why Google Adsense Team not to make a statement on their official blog, rather email to the individual webmaster?

Anna Patterson, an Xoogler(ex-Googler) who was once in charge of Google’s large search index project TeraGoogle, launched a new search engine www.cuil.com in a bid to shake the dominance of her former employer on Monday. As a fervent Google user, I will not use Cuil (pronouced cool) as my major search engine any time soon (after all as a launch version, cuil has too much to improve), but its magazine-like format search results supplemented with relevant pictures in a 2~3-columned layout sure will may let me make it as an alternative of Google when I search for celebrities' pictures.

"I'm Feeling Lucky" is a button on Google homepage which automatically takes one to the first web page returned for his/her query. You know? It can cost Google $110 million in annual revenue! Even though Google still refuses to remove it. Why? Marissa Mayer, Google's vice president for search products and user experience, said "If we took it away, there would be mass protests worldwide."

Apparently, "I'm Feeling Lucky" is not just a button, but also something else. The famous sex blogger/columnist/writer Violet Blue (bio below) has shown "I'm Feeling Lucky" condoms. Ghee!

Violet Blue is the best-selling, award-winning author and editor of twenty books on sex and sexuality, all currently in print, a number of which have been translated into several languages; she has contributed to a number of nonfiction anthologies. Violet is a sex educator who lectures at UC's and community teaching institutions, and writes about erotica, pornography, sexual pleasure and health for major publications and blogs. Google Connecting People Search Results Are NSFW

google search connecting people nsfw picture

Connecting People is the world's largest handphone manufacturer Nokia's slogan, so occasionally, someone may search this phrase  in the most popular search engine, aka Google, on the planet. When the renowned Chinese Google blogger Ken did such a search today, he was totally shocked to find a very NSFW picture as shown here which was automatically provided by Google Universal Search. This incident reminds me of the post named  Google Universal Search Means Looking For Raccoons Is No Longer Family Friendly on Search Engine Land.

Not like Google's another co-founder Sergy Brin who was only known to get married to Anne Wojcicki after a secret wedding held on illusionist David Copperfield's Musha Cay Island in Bahamas, Larry Page's marriage on December 8 (today) attracted extensive media attention since he middle of November. On December 5, Both Valleywag and New York Post reported detailed information on Lucy Southworth-Larry Page wedding. The wedding is expected to happen on a tiny Caribbean island called Necker Island owned by Richard Branson who will be Larry's bestman. Nearly 600 hundred distinguished guests including former President Bill Clinton and wife Hillary Clinton, U2 frontman Bono were invited and would fly in on private planes. They are arranged to stay at the exlusive Little Dix Bay Resort on Virgin Gorda, the neighboring island of Necker Island. Not like Businessweek's Zoe Galland who is already speculating the possibility of Larry Page's possible divorce, we just hope Larry Page can have a really good marriage with Lucy Southworth.
