At 7:24 Saturday evening, Shelby County 911 received a call about a possible drowning. They responded to the call, and transported Burgess to Children's Hospital in Birmingham. In spite of medical efforts, Burgess was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Justin Case, program director for WZZK, the flagship station for the "Rick and Bubba Show", has told FOX6 News that the family will have a memorial open to the public Tuesday afternoon at the Shades Mountain Baptist Church.
